The West Midlands Cat Clinic is a brand new facility specifically built with cats in mind!
We’ve included lots of strategies for minimising feline stress when you bring your cat to visit us, including:
- A no dog policy – no barking or scary smells!
- Sound-proofed consulting rooms (sound block plaster board and sound proofed doors)
- Cat climbing cubes and hidey-holes in consult rooms to encourage your feline friend to explore and relax
- Soothing blues chosen for our colour scheme, known to reduce feline anxiety
- Use of synthetic pheromone diffusers and sprays to mimic ‘feel safe’ hormones
- Cat coffee tables in reception – specifically for keeping your catbox off the floor and up next to you to help your cat feel safe while you wait!
At The West Midlands Cat Clinic, you can be sure your cat is in the very best of hands. The centre is run by the multi-award winning team at 387 Veterinary Centre, and is headed up by vet Emma Goncalves, who holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Feline Practice, and Registered Veterinary Nurse Jodie Barnfield, who achieved a distinction in her 18-month long feline nursing diploma with the International Society of Feline Medicine (ISFM) in 2019.
With 387 Veterinary Centre recognised as an ISFM Gold Cat Friendly Clinic since 2016, all our team trained in low stress handling, and two of our additional vets holding postgraduate qualifications in Small Animal Medicine and Small Animal Surgery, your cat’s health concerns will be managed from a strong, certified, cat-centric knowledge base.
As well as pledging to deliver an excellent standard of care for your cat, we strive to provide a personal and compassionate service for you, the owner. All consultations are a minimum of 15 minutes, rather than the standard 10 minute appointments you’ll find at many other practices. As well as giving your cat time acclimatise to their new surroundings, longer appointments mean we have plenty of time to discuss concerns about your cat’s health together, and means we can carry out a thorough examination to help reach diagnosis.
The West Midlands Cat Clinic is designed as a centre for client-facing cat friendly consultations and check-ups. Should your cat need to be admitted for tests or a procedure, we use the facilities at 387 Veterinary Centre, situated on the same site. The quiet cattery, hi-tech operating and diagnostic facilities and cat-friendly equipment is all approved by the ISFM at gold standard cat clinic level.
We believe we charge honestly, competitively and consistently. We don’t believe in cheap gimmicks or hidden costs! We want you to feel you get great value for the excellent standard of service you and your feline friend receive every time you visit, which is why we regularly compare our prices with other practices in the local area.
Supporting our Clients
You matter to us just as much as your cat. We want you to feel as comfortable as possible when you visit us too! With this in mind, our new cat clinic reception area and waiting room is bright, fresh and fully air conditioned, and we’ve installed sofas and cat coffee tables where you (and your cat) can relax before your appointment. Browse the cat-related literature and display boards in practice. And for additional support on how best to look after your feline friend, please do make use of our free Registered Veterinary Nurse-led clinics which range from advice on diet and nutrition, to best parasite treatment options for your cat, support with behaviour issues, kitten socialisation clinics and more. These are appointment-based so you will need to book.
End of life is always a very difficult time and we appreciate how important it is that this experience is the best it can be for both you and your cat. All our team members have completed end of life training with Compassion Understood, a company dedicated to teaching best practice in this area, so that we can offer best support in practice at this difficult time.
Gold Cat Friendly Clinic Status
The West Midlands Cat Clinic is currently in the process of being certified as an ISFM Cat Friendly Clinic. We’re aiming for gold! This will mean we meet standards set out by the International Society of Feline Medicine* at the highest level and will recognise the importance we place on minimising feline and owner stress.
Gold accreditation includes the provision of certain standards of facility, services and equipment specifically for treating cats, a cat dedicated consult room, a cat-only waiting area, the support of owner education, and team to be trained in sensitive, gentle and respectful handling of all feline visitors. We pride ourselves on our high standards of feline in-patient and out-patient care and on keeping up to date with developments in feline knowledge to continue to make improvements in our feline care. Two of our team attended ISFM’s 2-day UK Congress this March (2020), and in 2018, our vets Emma and Hamish were lucky enough to attend ISFM’s 4-day European Congress in Sorrento alongside other delegates from 35 countries.

Investors in People Platinum Accreditation
The team at The West Midlands Cat Clinic are also members of the 387 Veterinary Centre team which were awarded Platinum Investors in People accreditation in December 2019. The award recognises how well an organisation leads and supports its people against the Investors in People framework, and 387 Veterinary Centre has been IiP accredited since 2013, becoming the first vet practice in the UK in 2016 to gain Platinum. This is something only 2% of IiP organisations achieve.
The IiP standard for people management helps companies, leaders and employees work together for happier, healthier workplaces and better results. It means policies and practices around supporting people are embedded throughout a business, and at platinum level, means everyone knows they have a part to play in an organisation doing well and in driving positive change. Given that most of us will spend around 80,000 hours at work in our lifetime, it’s really important that we all enjoy our jobs! We know that it’s the people that make the practice, and we absolutely recognise that a happy, positive and progressive team leads to happy clients and happy pets!

Supporting the environment
We care about the environment. Whilst our sister practice 387 Veterinary Centre makes regular donations to Sustrans, the UK’s leading transport charity, and is a Bee Friendly Practice, as part of our cat clinic build, we’ve installed solar panelling to cut our carbon emissions by using renewable energy.
