Prepare for more snow!

With predictions for up to 12 inches of snow in the next 24 hours as well as cold, icy conditions, there are lots of things we can do now to help our feline friends’ wellbeing if we do get snowed in:

Set up indoor litter trays incase cat flaps freeze shut or your feline friend doesn’t fancy venturing outside.

Make sure your cat has access to lots of cosy spots so they can snuggle up and stay warm.

If your cat is used to going out and about, it’s worth having some indoor activities ready that will keep them engaged and entertained in cold weather. Scratch posts, puzzle feeders, pounce toys and lickimats® are all great distractors. We sell a carefully curated selection of enrichment toys in our reception area so do feel free to pop in and stock up! A snuffle box is a really simple toy you can make at home. Use a cardboard box, scrunch up paper and sprinkle cat treats or your cat’s biscuit into the box and leave them to forage. Easy and fun!

The gritters will be out in force today and many people will be gritting their own pathways. Grit can be an irritant to cat pads and can make them poorly if ingested while grooming. It’s advisable to wipe paws when cats come in after outdoor exploration, and to check their pads throughout the cold weather for any irritation or damage as this will be sore.

If outdoors, it’s likely cats will be looking for shelter. It’s worth getting into the habit of tapping the bonnet of your car and checking underneath before driving.

Fingers crossed the weather predictions aren’t as bad as we fear, but if they are, enjoy extra snuggle time with your feline friend!
