Keeping cats safe and calm on fireworks night

It’s nearly bonfire night and fireworks time again! Loud bangs and flashes can really spook cats. Here are some tips for looking after your feline friend this fireworks season and helping them to cope better.

Keep your cat inside if you know a fireworks display is planned, and make sure you lock cat flaps and close any windows to prevent them from darting outside if they become frightened. Remember to provide extra litter trays if your cat is inside for longer than usual.

Cats love to hide, so do give your feline friend a free run of the house and let them snuggle somewhere safe if they feel they need to. Under beds or in cupboards can be popular hiding spots. And even under duvets! Closing curtains and having background music playing will help to muffle loud noise.

We strongly recommend having your cat microchipped. If they do manage to run off and hide and then become lost, there’s a much greater chance of you being reunited. And if your cat is already microchipped, please check your contact details are up to date.
